Adventure racing is defined by many as much more than a sport. It is the athlete’s total interaction with nature and, for this is a practice of the fastest growing sports today.
The goal of the adventure race – as well as that of any other race – is go around and get another. But the similarities stop there. To reach the finish line, however, the path is difficult (literally).
The races take place in locations that offer the greatest possible diversity of terrain and landscapes. That’s because, despite the name, adventure racing is not just a race (and is not a form of athletics!). In the middle of “race” adventure are played different ways, the most common being the trekking, mountain biking, canoeing and vertical techniques. But this is not the rule. The organizers of each event can also decide to include swimming, horse riding, skating and other sports.
Races can last from one to 15 days in which case shipments are already considered competitive. Now you can imagine that a single person would not account to finish. It is also why adventure races are held on the teams. Each team can contain up to five people being obliged to both sexes.
And as stated earlier, not just run. In adventure racing you need a lot of strategy - besides of course, an excellent physical and mental preparation to support any kind of challenge that will be encountered along the way. And the strategy is crucial because, before reaching the finish line is to go through all the Control Points and Transition Areas set out in the route map.
Thus, as the name implies, this is a sport for adventurers and for whom, above all, loves nature and loves to be in contact with it. Many define the sport with a challenge to nature. The biggest challenge, however, is to reach the most extreme points of the route using means of transport that do not damage our planet.
