The Dramatic Phrase of William Shakespeare

shakespeare

Shakespeare arrived in London probably in late 1580. Thereafter dramaturgical production was intense. “Tito Adron” and “Henry 6. No” was possibly his first plays, written between 1589 and 1592. Already one of the most important dramatists produced by him in those early years was “Ricardo 3. No, that is the end of the Wars of the Roses which took place in England in the second half of the 15th century. Despite the historical inspiration, the playwright did not compromise with the accuracy of dates, facts and the roles of the characters he portrayed, after all, he wrote plays fictional and not historical accounts. The first years bring Shakespeare emphasizing the roles of heroes and villains in his plays.

One of his most inspired comedies of this early stage of his drama (1589-1594) is “The Comedy of Errors.” The play follows the story of Antipholus looking for his twin brother. In his quest he carries the smart servant Dromio, who coincidentally also has a twin brother disappeared. A series of mistaken identities is brilliantly explored and a debate between two young women – Adriana, wife of Antipholus, and his sister Luciana – includes discussions of obedience, autonomy and status of women. Since the tragedy “Romeo and Juliet”, written between 1594 and 1596, is undoubtedly one of the most famous and popular of Shakespeare. A proof of the perfection to which the playwright took the Elizabethan theater. Shakespeare was inspired by the long poem “The History of Tragicall Romeos and Juliet” (1562), the English poet Arthur Brooke, who in turn was based on a story by the Italian Matteo Bandello. The version of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” has inspired works in literature, dance, music, theater and film. The final story of tragic young lovers whose families are implacable foes, became symbolic of romantic love in the popular imagination across the planet.

Among the major tragedies written by Shakespeare are “Hamlet,” “Othello” and “Macbeth.” All were produced in the period from 1601 to 1608, the most productive period artistically and economically more prosperous for the playwright. The story of the legendary Danish prince told by Shakespeare shows the tormented Hamlet regrets the death of his father and deluded by the ghost father, crying for revenge. Appalled by the marriage of the mother and his uncle Claudius, who took the throne, Hamlet plot revenge. In “Othello, jealousy and guilt are dealt with through the deep history of the Moorish general who serves the dark realm of Venice. Spurred on by his subordinate Iago, he goes mad with jealousy for his wife Desdemona and kills. Iago does not show even an iota of regret for what caused it. In “Macbeth,” the blind ambition causes the rise and fall of the noble Macbeth in Scotland. Tragedy on the human conscience, the play part of a prophecy made by witches that Macbeth will become King of Scotland. This leads him to commit a series of murders to get what you want.

In his later years, in the period from 1609 to 1616, Shakespeare wrote comedies and historical pieces. One of the highlights of this phase is the play “The Tempest”, first performed in 1611. Conspiracies, love and revenge in this mix assembly that has as the main one enchanted island ruled by the magician Prospero. “The Tempest” is probably the most original Shakespeare play, both in its theme and its form, language and structure.

William Shakespeare wrote 38 dramas between 1589 and 1616. Most of these masterpieces which for centuries has influenced writers and philosophers, especially deeply touched the souls of all who come to theaters around the world to assist them.
